Predictive dialer

Also called: Predictive dialing, Auto dialer, Automatic dialer

A predictive dialer calls several numbers per available agent and connects agents only to calls a person answers, cutting time lost to rings and voicemail.

A predictive dialer automates outbound calling. Instead of agents dialing one number at a time and waiting through rings, busy signals and voicemail, the dialer places several calls for each agent who is ready and passes on only the calls a person answers.

It works out how many calls to place from a few inputs: how many agents are ready or about to finish, the dial ratio, and the connect rate the campaign is getting. Answering-machine detection screens out voicemail, so agents hear people, not greetings.

Predictive dialing suits high-volume campaigns where any available agent can take any call: lead qualification, sales, surveys, collections. It is less suited to complex accounts where the agent needs to prepare before the call; preview dialing works better there.

The main risk is abandoned calls, when more people answer than there are free agents. Good predictive dialing balances agent idle time against the abandon rate, and adjusts as the campaign runs. The OVOKY predictive dialer dials 1 to 10 lines per ready agent, applies answering-machine detection, can record calls per campaign, slows down while inbound callers wait, and offers preview mode for calls that need a second look.
